Darrell Redleaf’s Summer Makeup Tips

Celebrity beauty expert Darrell Redleaf’s summer makeup tips:

  1. Simple & quick - the trend this summer is toward simple and quick; less is more - wash and go hairstyles, five-minute makeup routines or almost no makeup at all
  2. Keep your skin hydrated - use a body hydrating lotion as soon as you get out of the shower and pat down. It’s best to apply the lotion while your skin is still moist
  3. Get rid of dark circles - dark circles happen when you are dehydrated. The skin cells above the blood capillaries shrivel due to lack or moisture and that causes the dark circle look. So first, try drinking more water to plump up the cells. If the cause isn’t from dehydration, then it could be from lack of sleep or from an illness. So if water doesn’t work, go to a concealer. Depending on your skin tone, find a concealer that really matches your skin. Don’t go too light or you’ll get raccoon eyes. Then dust over lightly with a bronzing powder that matches the tan part of your skin
  4. The trend this summer is to be bronzed - Go light on makeup and use a bronzing products (sunless tanning products) to give you a great glow. Don’t cover up the glow once you’ve got it! Fresh skin is the most beautiful, so less makeup is better
  5. Update your look - go to a makeup artist who can help find the right look for you; this might change from year to year, so don’t take it for granted

Airbrush Makeup 411

It’s no big secret; all the big-name actresses and singers do it; it’s oft the “secret” behind their stunning looking flawless skin. It’s called airbrush makeup, and here is the 411 on it.

Airbrush makeup is a high definition lightweight makeup that usually lasts longer than conventional makeup. The airbrush makeup application process does not require a massage by hands. Instead, a tiny amount of foundation makeup is mixed with water, then sprayed onto the face and neck in gentle circles with the help of a wand. The result is a sheer, full coverage, oft with an unblemished finish. Once it dries, you are set to go, without the need for finishing or setting powder.

Airbrush makeup typically lasts between 10 and 20 hours, and the application procedure usually takes no more than a half hour.

Apart from its ease of application, flawless finish and long-last effect, there are more advantages: Airbrush makeup is water and rub resistant; it is a fast, hygienic path to take, since only the makeup itself actually touches the skin.

Airbrush makeup is available for the whole body as well as for the face. There is also no “official” age restriction for it.

Laura Mercier’s Top Makeup Tips For The Season

Legendary catwalk make-up artist and all round beauty guru, Laura Mercier’s, top makeup tips for the Winter Season:

  1. Invest in a black eye shadow. It covers all the new season trends, plus black can be as vampy or subtle as you like
  2. For a subtle smoky grey eye that can be worn day or night, use a base white eye shadow over the lids before gradually layering on black
  3. For a more intense eye, brush black shadow over your lids, focusing along your lash line. Then dot some white in the corner of your eye to open them up
  4. No matter how skilled and confident you are with your makeup application, take your time and apply gradual layers until you get the right intensity
  5. To get the in style “berry lips”, use a shiny longwear lip color. Use your finger for a smudged stain or a lip brush for full-on intense colour. For a sheer effect, use a lip balm underneath your lip colour, and for precision use a berry lipliner. The berry lips trend is versatile, so it can be worn in different ways depending on your mood
  6. For flawless, glowing skin (instead of caked-on matte skin), use a tinted moisturiser to keep your skin looking fresh and clean, followed by a high-pigment pearlescent cream concealer over your lids. It will give you a glossy polished look, i.e. the very “fleshy” look that’s been all over the catwalks.
  7. Use concealer around your cheekbones and brows to naturally highlight your face to look like you’ve just stepped off the runway
